I work in the city. And like a lot of people who spend their weeks tied to a desk I like to get out and get active at the weekends. I enjoying hiking and I have a little fishing boat that I use whenever I get the chance.
I’ve started this website because my children have grown up and left home and I have a bit more time on my hands.
Ever since being a small boy I’ve always been fascinated by sled dogs. Their strength and resilience in the most challenging climates has often been the difference between survival and death for people who make their living in or explore the wilderness.
What many people call ‘huskies’ are in fact a variety of different breeds. There is really no such thing as one ‘husky’ breed. With obvious similarity to wolves these dogs are cross breeds. There’s the Alaskan Malamute, the Siberian Husky, Greenland Dog, Alaskan Husky and the Japanese Sakhalin husky. They are all great dogs and each have their own qualities.
This website is named after a rare breed of sled dog, the Seppala, so called because of the man who originally bred them – Leonhard Seppala. I’ll be writing articles about this guy and what he did but I’m interested in all ‘husky’ breeds and if you share my passion I hope you’ll enjoy visiting this website from time to time.
