I. S. A. Online Searchable Pedigree Knowedge Database

It gives me great pleasure to announce the establishment of THE I. S. A. PEDIGREE KNOWLEDGE DATABASE on the website of the International Seppala Association. The I.S.A. database is a sophisticated pedigree ancestry display for the Seppala Siberian Sleddog and I.S.A. Chinook Sleddog breeds. Its use is restricted to members of the International Seppala Association and the Working Canine Association of Canada.

The database is password-protected. Any member of either organisation may request a username and password from the Webmaster; username and password will be for the use of that member alone and may not be given to anyone else.

The Seppala Siberian Sleddog database (compiled by J. Jeffrey Bragg) consists only of I.S.A. and/or W.C.A.C. recorded or potentially eligible Seppalas; that is to say, dogs from Markovo-Seppala bloodlines and/or Solovyev bloodlines, together with the ancestors of these, and collaterals of those ancestors. In every possible instance ancestral data have been checked against C.K.C. and A.K.C. stud books, registration certificates, or certified pedigrees to ensure maximum accuracy. We take pride in offering the most complete and accurate listing of Seppalas to be found anywhere. It contains over a thousand individual dog records. This database does not include part-Seppalas; if no listing for a particular dog is found here, chances are that the dog is not a WCAC/ISA eligible pure Seppala.

The Chinook database was furnished courtesy of Tullibardine Farm Chinooks and consists only of I. S. A. recorded Chinooks and their ancestors. It contains around two hundred individual records.

Pedigrees may be traced back any number of generations simply by clicking on hyperlinks in the pedigrees, back to the limits of known ancestry. In the case of Seppalas, that will be either to Siberia imports or to the pre-registration stock bred in Alaska in the 1910 and 1920 decades. In the case of Chinooks, it will usually be to Perry Greene Kennels stock. Pedigrees can be displayed for whatever number of generations the user chooses, with or without hyperlinks.

Our Alfirin database software, provided courtesy of its developer Jim Trethewyn (Alfirin Technologies), will also display "reverse pedigree" (showing all the known descendants of the dog chosen). It also collects and displays "breeding information," which shows the sire, dam, littermates, full siblings, half-siblings, matings and progeny of the animal chosen. Finally, pedigrees of any two dogs in the database may be combined in a "trial mating pedigree." We think you will agree, once you have used our database, that it is indeed a powerful and extremely useful tool both for the breeder and for increasing one's knowledge of breed history and ancestry.

You'll find the I.S.A. database by clicking its link on the nav bar on the left side of the I.S.A. website's home page, or by clicking the following hyperlink in this message:

To those of you who have been trying to research Seppala pedigrees using the inadequate, incomplete, and often badly inaccurate information at PawVillage, here is the opportunity to discover new levels of accuracy and in-depth information, along with a superb tool for pedigree analysis, trial matings, and breed-ancestry historical research.
