How to join the International Seppala Association

Membership in the International Seppala Association is available upon payment to the Secretary-Treasurer of the annual membership fee of US$35.00 and signing of the I. S. A. Membership Agreement shown below:

International Seppala Association
Membership Agreement

I hereby acknowledge and agree that:

1) The purposes and goals of I.S.A. are the preservation, protection and advancement of historic minority sleddog breeds, such as Seppalas and Chinooks, as distinguished from such modern show dog breeds as Siberian Huskies, Alaskan Malamutes, etc.;
2) All-breed registries such as AKC (including its rare-breeds FSS arm), CKC, UKC, The Kennel club (UK) etc., as well as smaller for-profit registries such as Continental KC, Dog Registry of America, National Kennel Club, etc., cannot or will not meet the needs of historic sleddog breeds, and are unlikely to have their best interests at heart;
3) The interests of minority sleddog breeds are not served by their assimilation into or their dilution by show dog breeds from the foregoing registries, even though some individuals may still actually serve as sleddogs, nor is recognition by major all-breed show dog registries desirable for minority sleddog breeds;
4) My I.S.A. membership is a privilege, not a right, which carries with it responsibility for constructive, respectful interaction with other members, ethical behaviour and practices, and ethical treatment of sleddogs;
5) The I.S.A. Board of Directors has the right to review my adherence to these principles, and to issue warnings, reprimands and/or suspension of my membership for cause.
(Signed)

Paid-up members of the Working Canine Association of Canada may become members of I. S. A. upon application and signing of the membership agreement without payment of membership fees; I. S. A. members who join W. C. A. C. in the same calendar year will have their I. S. A. membership fee refunded. (The intent of this provision is that Canadians who support the W. C. A. C. should not have to pay dual membership fees if they also wish to support I. S. A.)

VOTING MEMBERSHIP: At the inaugural Board meeting the following provisions were established to provide for a voting membership class within a reasonable time frame while protecting the fledgling Association from hostile takeover initiatives during its formative period.

  1. Ordinary I. S. A. membership shall be non-voting associate membership.

  2. Associate membership will be conferred upon payment of membership fees and signature of the International Seppala Association Membership Agreement.

  3. Voting status shall be restricted to those who have demonstrated their commitment by having bred at least one I. S. A. eligible litter and who own eligible breeding stock.

  4. Voting status may be applied for by associate members after one year of membership.

  5. Applicants for voting status must secure the sponsorship of one I. S. A. Director before application can be brought before the Board of Directors.

  6. The Board of Directors will consider applications for voting status on the merits of each individual case, and a favourable majority vote of the Board shall confer voting status.
